OUT-OF-POINT ACCUSATION/DEED?
AN OUT-OF-POINT EXPECTATION? The world population, thereabouts of 2000,has been hovering about in the neighbourhood of 6 billion. Out of these thereabouts of 2 billion are said to be Christians (slightly over a billion catholics and nearly 600 million protestants). Some may well ask why this class of people are in focus. Expectations from people depend (among other things) on their religion. Christians are not the only people here. But as mentioned in an earlier posting there is an expected clear statement from them on an issue which (believe it or not) has been responsible for holding back the expected extents of human development on this our globe. How firmed are the fundamentals? The issue is more to the leaders. Since morality (and similar issues) are not yet the problem requiring their immediate solution (that is to say the key issue) ,we look at Christians for the points being raised here. Of these Christians we could determine the number of places of worship. Someone in Wikipedia stated (though I can’t quite find the place he was quoted to give proper credit) that Nigeria is the country with the highest number of Christian denominations. If you wait a bit you may see what I am attempting to drive at. Where I live,in Obinze, near Owerri (Imo State) bears out the last statement. On crossing the Owerri-Elele Road you meet Churches (places of worship) on both sides of that road, thereabout of 10 in that general area. Where I stay, in Nnewi (Anambra State) as you move out towards the towns centre you get nearly 10 again in that vicinity only that it is within a smaller area. What I am driving at is that as the number of churches (places of worship and congregations) you get more number of people (leaders if you like) who are expected to be of a minimum rank. This, notwithstanding, includes those of even higher rank running the system and others of similar or higher rank in secular duties. It is these leaders that are expected to solve the problems that humanity has been bedevilled with for centuries. How can we say all are saying the same thing when some Christians declare that no church would belong to their group except they assert, affirm and confirm they believe in the Trinity Doctrine. Some, even in print, declare that those who do not believe the doctrine are of the devil. If any such “leader” is finding it difficult to answer “yes” or “no” to questions similar in import to that posted earlier on this blog probably the entire “Christendom” may have begun to see a need to call serious study schemes and councils similar to the Councils held for centuries before they finally adopted the so-called doctrine(long after the missions after which a body of scriptures arose to cause the complexification). They may have begun to see a need to find ways of handling the issue so as not to allow necessary fundamentals to be lost. This last statement is not unmindful of slants of presentation, language and the like. IMPOSSIBLE LIKE THAT?(08-07-07)
